Butterfly Journal

I am over on the DecoArt Media blog today with a colourful butterfly journal I made using a ring-bound journal from Joggles and the super-bright Americana Premium medium body paints (love!).

I'd love it if you would visit me over on the DecoArt Blog, where you will find loads of process photos and step-by-step instruction.

Rainbows!

Creating Rainbows part 1

Oh, you know how I love rainbows and colour wheels! My video for Gel Press 'Print To Project' this month is all about creating beautiful patterned rainbow stripes while avoiding creating 'mud'. These colours just make me so happy!

Here are some of the prints I create on film:

In part 2 (published on Saturday) I turn these prints into happy colourful journals using my Duck Tape technique, so hope you will join me!

Don't forget I keep all of my Gel Press videos in one easy location which you can find on the 'Gel Press' tab at the top of my blog.

Using up off cuts

One thing I am absolutely not short of is off-cuts of printed, painted papers. In fact they are threatening to take over my life! It does mean however that I always have bright and colourful bits to use for a project at short notice.

Last time I visited The Craftrange, Burnley, I came across these cute little brown paper bags. I didn't know what I was going to do with them I just wanted them (LOL! Sound familiar anyone?) Anyway I made a really tiny cotton reel journal (see below) based on my larger reel journal which I made for a Gel Press video back in December I think. (By the way, all of my videos for Gel Press can be found here) I need a gift bag for the journal so I added a piece of a page I printed on the Gel Press, and then doodled a butterfly on another off-cut and added it too.

The reel journal is a great way to up up teeny tiny bits of printed leftovers:

And look! This is how tiny it is:

Ahhhh, small things make me happy :-)

Have a good weekend everyone!

Something Fishy ...

I'm always thinking up new ideas and looking for something different to do with my regular art journaling group at Art from the Heart. They are a very talented and experienced group so they really do keep me on my toes!

This time I decided to go with a fishy theme. Lots of mark making, and pattern building, and of course the brayer had to make an appearance too!

On the first page we created a patterned background using the fabulous Dina Wakley Media paints, and then drew and painted the fish onto the page. We incorporated Prima watercolours, and shaded with the Stabilo Aquarelleable pencil.

In the second page we made painted patterned papers to cut our fish from, again using the Dina Wakley paints. The background was created using a brayer ... we rarely have a class without the brayer making an appearance - it has become something of an in joke!

I'll be teaching something very similar to this at The Craftrange Burnley on 5th May, so if you fancy it come and join us there.
